The International AIDS Conference (IAC) is a biannual event and the largest regular conference on any health or development issue. In 2008, the World AIDS Campaign was actively involved in sessions and workshops at the IAC in Mexico City, and had an exhibition stand in the main exhibition hall. The organization, however, was dissatisfied with the results and extended a call for proposals that would offer an “eye-catching, innovative, and inviting” for its 2010 exhibition space at the IAC in Vienna.
Composed of bright red metal tubes that extend upward and weave across in a form that evokes the AIDS support ribbon, MRA’s scheme for the exhibit contains space for multimedia displays, a lounge for individual learning, and a meeting space for small educational sessions. The simple means of construction is intended for replication across future promotional events, the architecture becoming another voice in the cause of the World AIDS Campaign.
