The design of the new LifeWorks branch highlights the role of the non-profit in transforming the lives of youth and families seeking self-sufficiency and generational advancement.
The building’s placement on the site eschews the typical suburban layout by placing parking at the rear of the complex and allowing the building to establish a stronger, more urban edge that follows the curvature of the adjacent road. A generous colonnade acts as a communal “front porch,” inviting visitors in and providing shade, refuge, identity, and light.
The interior spaces are punctuated by outdoor areas on every level, the largest of which features a dramatic oculus. Over 90% of the occupied spaces have exterior views and natural light, and the project earned a 5-star sustainability rating from the Austin Energy Green Building program.
